AnyTyme Ommen about order kiosk: 'System is solid as a rock'
Fine-tuning the system
As a business owner, selecting the right system requires careful customization, as Roke has learned. “It’s crucial to tailor the system to fit your business needs. Pay close attention to how items are entered and how they appear to customers. For instance, abbreviations commonly used on kitchen receipts are not suitable for kiosk displays. While it takes time to set everything up properly, once done, it works seamlessly. This also reduces pressure at the checkout, allowing employees to assist in other areas.”
More frequent additional sales
It is often said that an order kiosk encourages additional sales, and Roke confirms this. "At the checkout, we already promote supplementary sales, but this doesn't always happen—especially when there is a long line," he explains. "With the kiosks, customers can visually see their options on the screen, making it easier for them to make a choice. By pressing the information button, they can also find out what's included in a particular burger."
Roke notes that sales of Coke and apple juice, which come at a premium in the kids' meal box, have increased. Additionally, customers are opting for the more upscale chicken schnitzels instead of the regular ones.
Delivery drivers are advisors
Roke ensures that kiosk staff provide explanations when needed. "Since we can no longer use 15-year-olds as meal deliverers, they are now engaged in other tasks within the business. They clean tables and chairs, guide guests to their seats, and assist customers at the ordering kiosk if they need help."
Guests who place an order at the kiosk receive a receipt and can pick up a buzzer. "Depending on how busy it is, they can choose to wait inside the store, outside, or in their car."
More burgers and luxury croquettes
Formula manager Han Wonink is enthusiastic about the order kiosk. “We’ve seen success in both innovation and convenience. All systems are integrated, allowing you to see your results at the push of a button. Spending through the webshop has increased, and we’ve noticed a shift from standard fries and snacks to items like hamburgers, loaded fries, and other snacks such as sitosticks, bear bites, and more premium croquettes. This change is due to customers having the time to choose and the ability to view the entire range of options on the screen at a glance.”
Especially young people use the kiosk
How do the guests at AnyTyme Ommen respond? Roke explains, "An order kiosk is fairly new to this region. Generally, we find that customers who come to McDonald's are already accustomed to it. However, others, particularly those around 40 or older, tend to be more cautious and prefer to go to the checkout. That option is still available. During the summer, we had four checkout points, which allowed us to distribute customers throughout the store more effectively during busy times. We noticed that three out of ten customers opted for the kiosk, especially families and grandparents with children. It creates an interactive experience at the screen."
