Visitors can view information on outdoor kiosks at municipality of Franeker.
ICIT provides build-to-order software on European level at three locations, namely in Franeker, Cuijk and Amsterdam. ICIT helps the municipality of Franeker and other companies to optimize business processes and laying links between various software packages. ICIT also develops custom (web) application specifically based on the customer's existing desires. Usually, this is based on the Symfony Framework or Drupal CMS. However, other techniques are also possible.
How they came into contact with Prestop
The municipally of Franekeradeel approached ICIT with a lovely and quite unique request. Tjerk Jongsma of ICIT had this to say: "The municipality of Franekeradeel merged with other municipalities in the municipality of Waadhoeke. Franekeradeel was looking for a farewell gift for its residents and the many tourists, to keep the memories of the old municipality alive. At first, that was to be a metal bench where people could charge their smartphones or tablets. However, in consultation, we went a step further, and it was decided to also incorporate an information kiosk beside the bench. Thus, the path led to Prestop, we knew the company already. Prestop's external kiosk matched our requirements perfectly."
Point at issue
The outdoor Prestop kiosk is ideal because both the housing and the touchscreen is dirt and weather resistant. "In the end, we installed seven of these external kiosks in the region, with our own software. Users of the kiosk get to see relevant calendar items, they can read news, take note of the weather forecast, call up bicycle and walking routes and inspect the history of the municipality in a clear timeline, which is filled with lovely content ", Tjerk explains.
Prestop's solution.
The hardware they delivered has become a lovely piece of customization. It's not only extremely functional and resilient, but visually, also perfectly fits the image the municipality had in mind. Tjerk explains: "The bench next to the kiosk is made of wood and Corten steel. Prestop ensured the appearance of the outdoor kiosk fits in seamlessly, by supplying the kiosk in a matching brown colour. Where we also very impressed with the fact that Prestop supplied us in advance with a loose touchunit, including the associated computer, so we could test, customize and plug and play our software extensively."

Day to day operations.
In the meantime, the outdoor kiosks are in high demand. "We have noticed the units in the inhabited areas are used more than the kiosks in the more remote areas. That makes sense, nevertheless, each kiosk fulfils a useful and pleasant function," says Tjerk. "We are happy with the delivery and the municipality is satisfied with the resulting solution."
