The Challenge: Reducing Staff Dependency with Smart Automation

Previously, tickets were manually scanned by staff using handheld devices. While this system functioned adequately, it became increasingly labour-intensive during peak hours and overlapping events. Chassé Theatre needed a fully automated solution capable of validating tickets independently, reducing staff workload, and ensuring seamless visitor flow. Key requirements included intuitive usability, mobility, and a design aligned with the theatre’s visual and technical standards.

Co-Creation in Action: Mobile Kiosks with Built-in Intelligence

Prestop developed two fully mobile scanning units tailored to the theatre’s needs. Each kiosk features a 10-inch Android Panel PC by ProDVX, a Newland 3D barcode scanner, and a custom-designed Prestop housing. The units are battery-powered and connect via Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for visible cables. Thanks to their compact form factor and integrated wheels, the kiosks can be easily relocated between auditoriums—a perfect fit for theatres with flexible usage.

A standout component is the LED light strip surrounding the ProDVX screen, providing immediate visual feedback: green for valid tickets, red for invalid ones. This reduces user confusion and removes the need for manual ticket checks. The user interface runs in a browser, requiring no additional software installation.

Why ProDVX Was Chosen

Prestop selected the 10-inch ProDVX Android Panel PC specifically for its robust performance, compact design, and integrated LED status indicator—an essential feature requested by the client. With Android OS, PoE+, Wi-Fi, and USB connectivity, the device offers the flexibility and reliability needed to integrate seamlessly into the theatre’s environment.

Faster Entry and a Smoother Guest Journey

The mobile kiosks are now deployed strategically at various entry points, particularly during film screenings with younger audiences who are familiar with digital and self-service tools. In these scenarios, the kiosks significantly accelerate entry and enhance the overall visitor experience.

For performances with older or more traditional audiences, human interaction remains essential. Staff are still available to assist and welcome guests, especially when kiosks are positioned farther from main entrances. The Chassé Theatre continues to evaluate and adapt kiosk use based on audience type and performance style.
