Outdoor kiosks with solar panels as an eye-catcher for Hello Bike.

X-Bike develops innovative systems for bike-sharing. The company implements these systems with bicycles built in-house. Under the name Hello Bike, X-Bike has implemented bike-sharing systems in Amsterdam and Leiden. Prestop has supplied solar poles, which serve as identification points. The bicycles work with a smart lock that the tenant can operate via an app. By now, 500 bicycles are in circulation for Hello Bike.

The road to Prestop.

Thomas de Graaf of Hello Bike explains how they came to Prestop: "In 2016, we won a tender on the Zuid-As, for a bicycle sharing system. Energetically, we had written into our plan that we would carry out our concept with a recognisable pole, which would light up the logo completely self-sufficiently. When the order came through, we quickly had to look for a supplier for this autonomously lit pole. Our advertising sign supplier had good experiences with Prestop and recommended them."

Point at issue.

Hello Bike already had a design for the pole, made by their own bike designer. "Prestop immediately understood what it was about and had the knowledge and technology to make the pole. The bollard had to be durable, self-sufficient in electricity and bright red—a real beacon in the city.

Prestop's solution.

Prestop first made a wooden prototype and advised Hello Bike on a few adjustments to the design. "This was very pleasant to keep the costs manageable. The final execution still honours the design. Thanks to the panel with solar cells, our logo is illuminated," says De Graaf.

"We are very positive about Prestop. They understood exactly what we were looking for and the level of cooperation was very high, on all fronts. In the end, their advice even saved us money."

Day to day operations.

In the meantime, ten of these illuminated instruction columns have been delivered and they stand as beacons in the inner cities. "Everything works fine, we also see a good increase in the use of our bicycles after installing the outdoor kiosks."
